The Sardinian artichoke Clone Agris 1 is a historical variety of the island, appreciated since the past for its delicate taste and beneficial properties. Cultivation in Sardinia has ancient origins, attested as early as 1780 as a useful plant both for the family garden and for local consumption. During the nineteenth century, thanks to the quality of the fruits, production developed toas well as commercially, providing local markets and the capital, and becoming an important economic resource for the island's farming communities.
